Every year, WWE hosts the money in the bank event, which features ladder matches of the same name where the winner gets a title shot at any time. This is generally a really fun show. It turns out that Money in the Bank which takes place this Sunday, so let’s go over the show and see what we can expect.
Bayley will be defending her Smackdown Women’s championship against Tamina. Tamina is an imposing force that will give Bayley a run for her money. Either by determination or by help from Sasha Banks, I am confident that Bayley will retain her championship.
The real story being told right now, is a slow separation between Sasha and Bayley as friends. It’s assumed that Sasha wants Baykey’s championship, so eventually, the two will split apart and rehash their bitter rivalry from when they were both in NXT.
Tag Team Titles
The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) will defend their Smackdown Tag Team Titles in a fatal four way tag team match against the Lucha House Party (Lice Dorado & Gran Metalik), two members of the Forgotten sons, and the Miz & John Morrison. I’ve always loved triple threat or 4-way tag team matches, and this is going to be no different.
I expect to see every team shine at least a little. The Forgotten Sons are a new team on the main roster, so they should have some big moments, the Lucha House Party are generally flashy, and right now Miz & Morrison, and the New Day are on the top of the division, so everyone will probably look good. In the end, I expect to see Miz & Morrison win the titles.
The Big Title Matches
Braun Strowman will be defending his Universal championship against his former Wyatt Family leader, Bray Wyatt. The story telling on this has been fascinating. Who doesn’t love a good teacher vs. student story? This version of Bray is not the Fiend, but instead, just happy go lucky, kid presenter, Dad-looing Bray Wyatt. For this reason, I expect that Braun will win, to face the Fiend at a future event.
Seth Rollins has his eyes set on the WWE championship, which means he has to go through the champion, Drew McIntyre. Both men have been on a roll lately and this is sure to be a really good match full of fantastic character work. In the end, I think we’ll see Drew Retain, but I also don’t think it will be the last we see of Drew vs Seth.
[Corporate] Ladder Matches
Remember those ladder matches I mentioned at the beginning of the article? Well, they’re going to be weird this year. Instead of climbing a ladder in a ring in an arena, all the wrestlers will begin on the ground floor of the WWE corporate headquarters, and they have to climb to the top of the building to then climb a ladder to retrieve the briefcase.
There are two ladder matches this year, one for the men, and another for the women. The men’s ladder match consists of Daniel Bryan, Otis, King Corbin, Aleister Black, Rey Mysterio, and the returning AJ Styles. I really don’t know who will win; for once, I’m out of guesses. I’ll just say Aleister Black.
The women’s ladder match has Asuka, Shayna Baszler, Nia Jax, Carmella, Lacey Evans, and Dana Brooke. This is one I can see going one of two ways. Either Asuka or Shayna are taking the brief case and securing a title match whenever they want.
One last note, I have a gut feeling that someone is getting tossed off the roof of the tower. They can do that, right? I don’t know who it will be, but someone is going down on Sunday.
I’m really looking forward to the event as a whole, especially the ladder matches.
