I’ve never heard of an NFL team getting the death penalty and not being able to play next season but the Los Angeles Rams may be on that track after suffering what has to be described as the worst loss of the season for an NFL team. Whenever the New York Jets come on the schedule and it should be assumed to be the most winnable game of the season but somehow, Los Angeles came up with a way to butcher this game away and take one of the all-time worst losses to a team that was winless.
The Jets have just about the worst everything in the NFL yet the Rams were unable to score more than 20 points and weren’t able to push the ball when they needed to. This comes just one week after the Jets were absolutely slaughtered by the Seahawks by a score of 40-3.
The Rams are right in the thick of a playoff hunt and taking a loss like this is a brutal way to enter the final two games of the season. It gets no easier for this Rams team who must now play the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals. The fifth seed in the NFC Wild Card is valuable as the winner will face the NFC East champ. The Rams hold a lead for now but if they lose just once and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can just beat the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons, they’ll steal the spot.
This game against the Seahawks shouldn’t be easy, despite the Rams getting a win over them in the first matchup of the season. The Rams figured out how to completely shut down the Hawks offense and gave them a beating of 23-16. In that game, Russell Wilson didn’t throw a touchdown and the offense was entirely held in check. Meanwhile, Jared Goff decided to show up that day and threw for 302 yards while Malcolm Brown finished them off with two rushing touchdowns.
This game will tip in Seattle’s favor as they are now on a two-game winning streak and get to play in Seattle where they are 6-1 this season. The Rams are now coming off a loss that should shatter the confidence of their team and are playing on the road.
Players to Watch:
Los Angeles Rams, Malcolm Brown: If the Rams get into the redzone, there is a good chance that Malcolm Brown will be the guy to watch for as he scored twice against Seattle last time out and is dominant when scoring from five yards or less out.
Seattle Seahawks, Russell Wilson: This has been the tale for Seattle all season. When Russ plays well, the Hawks win. When Russ turns the ball over, the Hawks lose. They need Wilson to channel that earlier season mode he was in and light up the scoreboard this time around as this game could determine the division.
One team is 6-1 at home and the other just lost the Jets.
