It feels college football is currently just a massive hoop burning from every end being held over a body of water with angry sharks swimming around it. I’m not sure if we will get a National Championship Game or if we will even close out the regular season, but I do know that this college football season has been anything but ordinary. That extends into the College Football Playoff, where the team that is ranked number one has played eight games, the team that is ranked number four has played four games and an undefeated team ranked 13 that is trying its best to find another opponent has won nine games. All in all, it’s a bit of a mess.
But a team like Texas A&M can’t let that affect their vision and how they will be taking the field on Saturday when they take on recently unranked Auburn. Texas A&M is currently the first team out of the Top Four but that could change if one of those teams lose a game in the next two weeks. The Aggies will be hurt by the fact that they won’t be playing in the SEC Championship Game, Alabama will have that honor. But, the Aggies could still slide in if Ohio State or Clemson were to lose a game. Clemson already has a loss and Ohio State has way fewer games than A&M who have beat some decent opponents, including number six.
For Auburn, they have managed to let many down yet again. They are coming off a loss to Alabama where they got rocked and they don’t have much of a shot at salvaging their season at this point. But Auburn has played disruptor in the past and this Aggies team has had some close calls so far this season. They just narrowly beat LSU by less than two scores on Saturday and to be the number five team in the country, they should really be blowing teams out of the water.
Texas A&M Keys to the Game:
Texas A&M, Focus on this Game: The Aggies played down to their competition last week against LSU. Thankfully for them, the Tigers of 2020 aren’t the Tigers of 2019 and that team didn’t have the resiliency to fight back in that game to win it. This time around, the Aggies face an Auburn team that hasn’t been impressive but have the chops to knock them off. Texas A&M can’t get ahead of themselves and need to take care of business this week.
Auburn Keys to the Game:
Auburn, Get the Offense Going: The passing game will be okay but there were some serious struggles against Alabama who doesn’t have the greatest pass defense this year. Bo Nix came into the conference as a legit threat but has bottomed out for the most part. The Tigers have put up 30 or more in four different games but need to get the ball moving on earlier downs.
While the Aggies are favored by 5.5, I think they narrowly edge them out to cover.
