The NBA season is FINALLY here. Just kidding, it was only gone for like three weeks it felt like but here we are getting ready for the regular season to tip off on December 22. It seems wild that the season is starting after the last one felt like it just ended, but that is just 2020 in a nutshell for you.
The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a Title Win and it’s obvious that they yet again are the favorites to win it all after replenishing talent and getting even better in the offseason. We introduced another Ball into the NBA and there was of course lots of trade drama. But here we are, getting ready for another NBA season that hopefully is a lot more normal and way less traumatic than the last one that was played.
NBA Opening Night
Opening night this year features just two games but it is premiering four of the top teams in the NBA.
Golden State Warriors vs Brooklyn Nets
The Golden State Warriors are coming off a tough season where they were without Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson for most of the year and this season they’ll be without Thompson again. But this should be a Golden State team that is similar to ones in years past as they added the second overall pick in the draft, James Wiseman and made some solid additions in free agency.
The Nets on the other hand have been waiting to show off their new superteam with Kyrie Irvin and Kevin Durant. Durant of course won two NBA Finals with the Warriors before bolting to Brooklyn so there should be some tension and some heavy competitive spirit when it comes to winning this game. The Nets are the favorites in the East and the Warriors aren’t in the West, which seems a little backwards but again, it’s 2020 and nothing is predictable anymore.
Los Angeles Clippers vs Los Angeles Lakers
This game should be an incredibly exciting one as the Clippers and Lakers were supposed to be the top two teams in the Western Conference last season. The Clippers were let down by Paul George in the playoffs yet gave him a massive contract extension this offseason. The Clippers fired Doc Rivers and replaced him with Ty Lue and also brought in Serge Ibaka which is a massive upgrade for this team.
The Lakers were able to sign away Montrezl Harrell who was the Sixth man of the Year last season and could make things heated as he went to the other side of town to play with the reigning NBA Champs. Lebron and Anthony Davis will also be joined this season by Dennis Schroder, Marc Gasol and other key pieces that should make them even better this season.
This game should be a fun way to kick off action in the West between two teams that we imagine aren’t very fond of each other.
Every other team will be in action on December 23 and of course, everyone loves their Christmas basketball.
