It’s been one of the most dramatic and argued College Football Playoffs in history and that is largely thanks to the coronavirus. With teams missing games and players being sidelined, it made it hard to evaluate and judge teams the way they should be and it made a lot of people very angry that some teams were given a shot over others.
The College Football Playoff is far from perfect and I think this year the cracks were very evident with how the playoff is rigged. It wasn’t supposed to be the same teams in the playoff year after year, but here we are. Alabama and Clemsona and Ohio State find themselves here again and Notre Dame is no stranger either.
There are a lot of folks who are upset that Ohio State, who played just six games, were given a spot over teams like Texas A&M and Florida. There are even more teams who feel like Notre Dame, who were just absolutely smashed in the ACC Championship game, should be nowhere near the CFP. I happen to agree with the latter but hey, I’m excited for them to be embarrassed on an even larger stage this week. Let’s take a look at the two games.
College Football Playoff Games
#1 Alabama vs #4 Notre Dame
Alabama is the best team in the nation, there is no doubt about it and there is no argument that anyone could make to change my mind. Alabama is always ready to play and Nick Saban has another National Championship caliber team on his hands that could very well go undefeated in a season that saw COVID run rampant and Nick Saban be linked to the virus twice.
Notre Dame is not the best team in the nation and likely not even the fourth best team. The Irish played in an embarrassing ACC this season and they are historically choke artists. It’s not going to be much different in this game and I expect a result very similar to the 2013 BCS National Championship when Alabama blew the doors off of the Irish 42-14. Alabama is going to score a ton of points and Notre Dame is not going to put many up.
Prediction: Alabama 55 Notre Dame 21
#3 Clemson vs #4 Ohio State
This is a rematch from last year and there is already a lot of smack talk going down. Every year, coaches rank the final AP Poll and Dabo Swinney didn’t even list Ohio State in the Top 10. This should be a fun matchup to watch as we will have the first overall QB taken and the second overall QB taken going head to head.
“What universe am I living in? … In my opinion — Texas A&M, Florida, Oklahoma, Cincinnati — they got punished for playing more games.”Clemson coach Dabo Swinney doubles down on ranking Ohio State No. 11 in Coaches Poll
Ohio State has a lot to prove considering they played just six games and didn’t have any massive, blowout wins over ranked opponents. Clemson has a loss on the schedule to Notre Dame when they were without Trevor Lawrence but the Tigers have been perfect otherwise. This should be a much more competitive and interesting game on all accounts.
Prediction: Clemson 31 Ohio State 28
