Rams vs Packers. There is nothing like watching Aaron Rodgers in January in freezing cold weather at Lambeau Field. And it’s going to be especially interesting when he takes on a Rams team on Saturday that is not used to the cold and has two quarterbacks that are greatly injured.
The Rams were able to defeat the Seattle Seahawks last week in the Wild Card round despite not having Jared Goff to start the game and then turning to him early in the game when starter John Wolford went out with a massive hit taken from Jamal Adams. Goff just had thumb surgery two weeks ago and it is unclear how healthy he really is.
The Packers have been one of the best teams in the National Football League since the last half of the season and they are one of the best teams at home this year. Aaron Rodgers is a wizard at Lambeau Field in the playoffs going 5-2 in the postseason there. On top of that, he has his team playing at a 7-1 record when they are on their own turf.
Green Bay is a team that is going to beat you through the air and there is a very good chance that Rodgers is going to win his second league MVP this season. He had more touchdown passes in 2020 than his team had punts, let that sink in for a second. He has weapons in Davante Adams, Aaron Jones, and Robert Tonyan and has been spreading the ball around extremely well over the last 8 weeks.
“He’s a great quarterback that’s playing lights out this year,” Aaron Donald said in his Wednesday press conference. “He’s making some great throws and good decisions. Obviously, he can do things with his feet, not the fastest guy, but he can move.
The Rams are a team that will beat you on defense. Los Angeles has a terrific defensive front and they got to Russell Wilson last week for five sacks. Aaron Donald injured himself in last week’s game but he is reportedly good to go for the matchup against Green Bay.
“I feel good, feel real good,” Donald said on Wednesday. “No pain. I feel healthy. … My damn side is just sore. I’m good though. I had a whole workout. I’m feeling strong, I’m feeling healthy. So I’m good.”
Rams vs Packers Keys to the Game
Green Bay Packers, Stop the Run Game: One way to win a game effectively is to make the quarterback who just had thumb surgery throw the ball as much as he has to. Cam Akers had the game of his career last week and he will be looking to do the same this week. If the Packers 13th ranked rush defense can shut down Akers and Co., it’ll be huge.
Los Angeles Rams, Get to Rodgers: Aaron Donald is a full-go and you can bet that he and Leonard Floyd will be gunning for Rodgers this weekend. With so many sacks last week, they have to hope there isn’t a defensive line hangover.
