Rams vs Seahawks. There is nothing quite like watching two heated division rivals go at it in the NFL Playoffs and that is exactly what we are getting this weekend when the Seattle Seahawks host the banged-up Los Angeles Rams this weekend during Wild Card Weekend.
The Seahawks won the NFC West while the Rams were able to clinch a wild card spot and even eliminate their other division in the Arizona Cardinals during Week 17 of the regular season. This sets up the third matchup between the Rams and the Seahawks this season as the two split the season series. The Rams won the first game after shutting down Russell Wilson but they two faced each other again in Week 16 and it was all Seattle.
The most obvious thing to point out in this game is that Jared Goff will more than likely not be available. During that Week 16 game, Goff injured his thumb while throwing and he had surgery the following day. Goff missed last week’s game and the start went to former AAF star John Wolford. While Wolford got the win and the job done, his individual performance wasn’t overly impressive. Wolford threw for 231 yards with no scores and an interception. The advantage the Hawks have with this guy under center can’t be understated and it’s a terrible break for the Rams who were in a prime position to face a team they know well.
This may come as a surprise, but over the last eight weeks of the season, the Seahawks have turned into one of the top defenses in the league. This isn’t going to be good for Wolford who will be facing a team that is allowing just 13.4 points over the last five weeks. This was at one point a defense that was on pace to break NFL records for how many yards and points they were allowing per game but have somehow gotten their act together.
While this was happening, their offense started to oddly suffer. The Hawks are no doubt entering this playoff weekend with a bit of a hangover going on. Russell Wilson was once an MVP runaway that will now be lucky to just receive a vote. The Hawks can’t mess around with the Los Angeles defense. They may be without Jared Goff but they still have Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey and Leonard Floyd.
Rams vs Seahawks Keys to the Game:
Los Angeles Rams, Pound the Ball: It’s a lot to ask of a first-year quarterback making his second career start to go out there and win a playoff game. This could be made easier if the Rams can effectively run the ball. They have a three-back monster led by Cam Akers that could open up the playbook. Sean McVay should get creative and take pressure off Wolford.
Seattle Seahawks, Slow the Rush: The Rams have gotten to Russell Wilson 11 times in their two games this season. Wilson is a guy who brings on a lot of sacks because of how he moves around but he will have to get rid of the rock with a guy like Donald coming for him.
Rams vs Seahawks Prediction:
Rams 22 Seahawks 25
