If you’re a fan of battle royale titles, you’ll likely be aware of a game called Apex Legends. This 2018 title has earned the reputation of battle royale royalty after a couple of great years at the top of the multiplayer gaming scene. The title has offered some amazing maps, characters, gameplay moments and stunning visuals to its player base. However, it looks like Apex could be making a drastic change, opting to offer game modes which stray from the core battle royale format.
In a recent tweet from Developer Respawn Entertainment, we have been informed that the developers have plans to extend Apex’s reach beyond the realms of battle royale gameplay, hoping to offer more ways to play in the coming months. Here is the official tweet:
This was also supplemented by a recent interview with game director Chad Grenier who suggested that many conversations take place about expanding beyond the current game format, here is what he had to say in an interview with Eurogamer:
“I think if you look into the future, we have a lot of conversations of, you know, should we expand beyond battle royale? We have this roster of legends that people love – how else can we use them?”
What Does This Mean?
While this snippet from Respawn offers no real confirmation that the series will be moving to a new game format, we are excited for the prospect of change and have been looking into the possibilities that could be on the horizon.
The first thing we could come up with was a standard ‘Team Deathmatch’ mode. This would be a great fit for the title due to the diverse roster of characters already present within the title, plus, the maps already present would serve as great areas to cordon off and use as more condensed battle areas. This idea is also very likely as perceptive players have already found code relating to an ‘arena mode’ within the code belonging to Kings Canyon. So if you are waiting for a mode akin to the likes of Destiny 2’s ‘The Crucible’ or an Overwatch style mode, you may be in luck.
More To Contend With
There have also been suggestions from the fan base that the game may adopt a game mode that includes a PvE aspect. Many believe that this will have players fight environmental AI creatures to obtain luxury resources which make the end game much easier for players who go out of there way to engage in extra battles away from their online competitors. It’s an interesting prospect and one we would really love to see in action.
Whatever Respawn have in mind when it comes to these ‘new ways to play’, we can only assume that the ideas are going to be of high quality. Apex Legends has maintained very high standards ever since it’s release and provided countless updates to keep players engaged. However, this change may bring new FPS players to the series and we can’t wait to see how this one unfolds. Keep your ear to the ground and if we hear anything, we will let you know.
So that’s our news regarding potential big changes to Apex Legends. What do you make of this news? Do you think that this game will move away from its battle royale routes? Plus, if it does, what would you love to see in this series? Let us know in the comments section below and as always, thank you for reading.
