Super Bowl 55 is going to offer up an epic quarterback matchup with Mahomes vs Brady and it is exactly what we needed before Tom Brady eventually hangs them up. This feels like a Lebron vs Jordan Finals that we never got as if anyone is going to knock Tom Brady off the GOAT pedestal, it could be Mahomes.
Mahomes vs Brady Rivalry Continues
The fact that we get to see these two in the Super Bowl against each other is really something special and it will be the tie-breaker in the head-to-head series between these two that we have already gotten. Mahomes vs Brady will happen for the second time with Brady as the member of the Bucs, but he faced him three times in his New England playing days, taking two of three from the young gun. Let’s take a look at the four previous matchups between these two.
2018 Week 6
This was the first time we got a glimpse of Mahomes vs Brady and it is the same season that Mahomes went on to win the MVP award. This also isn’t the only time that these two would face each other in the course of this season.
The Patriots were up big in this one with a 24-9 lead that disappeared and made things more interesting. The Chiefs tied it up late in the game but Brady engineered a game-winning drive that ended with a Stephen Gostowski field goal to win it all. The Pats won 43-40 and Brady threw for 340 and a score compared to the 352 Mahomes put up with four scores but two picks.
2018 AFC Championship Game
This was one of the better AFC Championship games over the last decade and it’s what cemented a really special rivalry between these two quarterbacks. The Pats had a double digit lead that was washed away yet again. The Chiefs seemed to intercept Brady with just a minute remaining, but an offsides wiped it out and in Brady fashion, he went down and scored to take the lead. After a Chiefs FG, the game went to overtime where Brady ran 13 plays and scored a touchdown to send the Pats to the Super Bowl.
New England won 37-31 with Brady throwing for 348 yards, a score and two picks while Mahomes had 295 yards and three touchdowns.
2019 Week 14
With Brady up 2-0, it was only a matter of time before Mahomes came racking back into the series. This game was low scoring but you couldn’t blame Brady who basically had just Julian Edelman to throw to. Harrison Butker had three field goals and the Chiefs won 23-16.
Brady threw for 169 yards, a touchdown and a pick. Mahomes had 283 yards with a touchdown and a pick.
2020 Week 12
This game looked like it was going to be a bloodbath really quickly. It is really known as the Tyreek Hill game as the Chiefs wide receiver who went for 269 yards and three scores, he was untouchable in this game. The Chiefs had a huge lead in the beginning but while the Bucs seemed to crawl back into it, Brady threw two interceptions that were nails in the coffin for his team.
The Chiefs went on to win this game by a score of 27-24 with Brady producing 345 yards, three interceptions and two picks while Mahomes was practically perfect, throwing for 462 yards, three interceptions and no turnovers.
