There are just over 27 games left to be played in basketball’s regular season with the NBA playoffs beginning at the end of May. This season has been nothing short of interesting with a couple of massive trades, some really big injuries to superstar players, and even a surprise retirement that was just announced.
As we head down the final stretch of this season, there are a few teams that are more intriguing than others. I think the Denver Nuggets were probably one of them before Jamaal Murray went down for the season with an ACL tear and the Miami Heat would have been one before a Victor Oladipo injury. The intriguing teams in my mind are the ones that are either new to the scene, a team that has underwhelmed but began to find its stride, or a heavy favorite that has stumbled the last few months. Here is a list of the most intriguing NBA teams as we head down the stretch.
NBA Teams To Watch
Few teams have been as fun to watch this year as the Phoenix Suns. Adding Chris Paul and Jae Crowder this offseason has turned Phoenix into a top team in the Western Conference, just 1.5 games back of the Utah Jazz currently. Devin Booker is playing the best basketball of his career and the development of Deandre Ayton has been a ton of fun to watch.
Phoenix hasn’t had a very tough schedule but they do have the best record in the NBA against winning teams. This Suns team can battle hard, knows how to stay in a game, and can also turn on a dominance switch out of nowhere. We all know the struggles of CP3 in the playoffs and we have anxiously awaited Booker’s postseason debut. The Suns have the kind of luck to get paired with the Lakers in a round 1 matchup, but regardless, their path will be interesting to see if they can keep up this level of play.
This seems like an obvious answer but they are on my list for a reason other than having all the talent in the world with Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden. What I am more interested in is seeing if this team can keep cool heads throughout the final part of the season and playoffs. Steve Nash has the ultimate task of keeping all these guys happy which is a lot to deal with considering Kyrie takes a personal day about every two weeks, KD is getting in internet fights, and Harden is injury prone. I want to just monitor how these guys are with each other as time passes by.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers failed to make a move at the deadline to bring in another weapon to help out Damian Lillard. Lillard is the reason that the Blazers are compelling and intriguing in the first place. Everyone wants this guy to win a ring, or at least just get to a Finals. Lillard is in my opinion one of the most special players in the game and I really think that if he can get Portland into the playoffs as a four-seed or better, he might actually be considered the favorite for the MVP. That will have a lot to do with how the Nuggets end and Jokic’s performance, but it could come down to him and Lillard.
